Information on the senior exercise programs

Senior-Cize @ USO

Senior Splash @ Hilliard Pool

No Gym Required

Parks and Recreation hosts two low-impact Senior Fitness programs for those young at heart that are 55 and older.  Both programs are led by Carolyn Irvine and have been in place for over 10 years.

Senior-Cize at the USO Service Center located at 2105 Avenue M and includes fall prevention drills, exercises to improve strength and endurance as well as alternating upper-body strength work with low-impact cardio to maximize fitness benefits.  The program includes chair and standing exercises.

Senior-Cize is 2 days a week currently on Monday & Wednesdafrom 8:30 – 9:15 a.m. and will expand to Fridays beginning June 2nd  There is no charge for Senior-Cize

Senior Splash is a fun, shallow-water exercise class that uses low -impact moves to increase movement and intensity options. Splash is suitable for all skill levels and is safe for non-swimmers. The pool provides many benefits when used for aerobic exercise and resistance training.

Senior Splash is held Tuesday – Friday from 6 – 7 p.m. at the Hilliard Pool located at 3020 Le Tulle Street.  Class fee is $1/class.  Classes begin June 6th.

As we age our physical abilities begin to decline, but studies show losses can be mitigated or sometimes even reversed through exercise and improved lifestyle habits that not only target the muscular, skeletal and cardio systems, but the brain as well.

Before starting any exercise program, adults should talk with their doctor to ensure that it is safe and effective.

Big Oak Disc Golf Course at Le Tulle Park Gets Major Make-Over

Discs are flying once again over the landscape at Le Tulle Park located just west of Bay City at 1100 Highway 35. The newly renovated disc golf course is three courses in one location. The Disc Golf course was re-designed and installed by Ben Madary of Cycle Works Disc Golf over the last two months.   The course offers new challenges throughout the ponds and beautiful live oak forested acreage at Le Tulle Park.  An interactive map and scorecard can be found on the UDisc app. You can choose from an 18-hole beginner (silver layout), par 55, 5325 ft layout; a 21-hole intermediate (yellow layout), par 65, 6348 ft layout or the 24-hole tournament (orange layout), par 75, 7723 ft layout.  Each tee features new signage that features how to play the hole for each layout.

To show off the new course, The Big Oak Challenge disc golf tournament will be hosted at Le Tulle Park on Saturday, May 13th.   Information the tournament and how to register can be found at:

The park is open daily from dawn until dusk and is closed after dark. When there are no events, using the park and the disc golf course is free of charge. Other amenities at Le Tulle Park include picnic areas, three pavilions (that can be reserved), a giant playground, two duck ponds, public restrooms, and large barbeque pits.
