Head Lifeguard

Under the general direction and supervision of the Parks and Recreation Supervisor, the Head Lifeguard will be responsible enforcing policies and procedures, to ensure efficient and effective operation of aquatic facilities including personnel management and training.  Additional duties involve all aquatic operations including but not limited to: lifeguard (when necessary), first aid, CPR, AED administration; scheduling of staff; public relations; janitorial duties – cleaning of restrooms, office areas and decks; limited pool maintenance - hourly chemical analysis/testing (during operational hours), backwash of filters, cleaning of strainer/skimmer baskets and vacuuming of pool; swim lessons, water aerobics and all other duties as necessary or required.  This employee should have excellent organizational, communication, and public relation skills.  This is a working supervisory position requiring weekend and holiday work.  Will perform other duties as assigned.

Perform chemical analysis and application. Track the chemical readings hourly when the pool is open.  Report the hours worked for all employees under his/her direct supervision.  Ensure employees under his/her direct supervision are properly trained in their duties.  Assist Aquatics manager with weekly training and safety meetings for all employees under his/her direct supervision.  Track pool attendance, balance cash drawer and bring money to the Aquatics manager for review.  Ensure that all equipment is in proper operating condition.  Handle first aid problems.  Maintain staff rotations and staff breaks.

Maintain discipline at assigned Aquatic facility.  Supervise and enforce policies and rules.  Enforce the City of Bay City Aquatics rules and regulations to staff and public.  Maintain positive public relations at assigned Aquatic Facility.  Document and reports all disciplinary problems and accidents to the Aquatics Manager.  Maintain clean facilities including but not limited to bathrooms, trash inside and outside of each facility, vacuum pool (a minimum of 2 times per week or more, if needed).  Set a positive example for the rest of the staff to follow.  Inform Aquatics Manager when supplies are needed and if equipment needs repaired.  Check all gates and doors at closing time.  Prepare and complete records and reports.  Required to work weekends.  Subject to after-hours call out as needed or for emergency situations.   Abides by all policies, procedures, rules, etc. associated with the City’s Safety Program.

Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.  A minimum of one (1) years of progressive pool management operations.  Must have certifications in the following: American Red Cross Lifeguard; Water Safety Instructor, AED and Oxygen Certified and Waterpark Lifeguard certification/license.  Must have good communication skills; requires a calm demeanor in responding to customer questions/and or complaints, and dealing with the general public in everyday activities.  Ability to work within established guidelines.  Ability to perform repetitious tasks.  Participate as first responders in emergency situations (i.e. tropical storms, hurricanes, and tornados, train derailments, hazardous material spills, etc.).  Must participate in employee performance evaluations in accordance with the City of Bay City Employee Guidelines for City Employees.  Must pass a medical physical examination and drug test.  Must pass a criminal background check.  High School diploma or GED.  Valid Class C Texas State Driver's License and safe driving record.  To perform this job successfully, the person in this position must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
